6.38.1. Installation of Gawk

Prepare Gawk for compilation:

./configure --prefix=/usr --libexecdir=/usr/lib

Compile the package:

make

To test the results, issue:

make check

Install the package:

make install

If desired, install the documentation:

mkdir -v /usr/share/doc/gawk-3.1.8
cp    -v doc/{awkforai.txt,*.{eps,pdf,jpg}} \
         /usr/share/doc/gawk-3.1.8

Installed programs: awk (link to gawk), gawk, gawk-3.1.8, grcat, igawk, pgawk, pgawk-3.1.8, and pwcat

Installed directories: /usr/lib/awk, /usr/share/awk

awk	A link to gawk
gawk	A program for manipulating text files; it is the GNU implementation of awk
gawk-3.1.8	A hard link to gawk
grcat	Dumps the group database `/etc/group`
igawk	Gives gawk the ability to include files
pgawk	The profiling version of gawk
pgawk-3.1.8	Hard link to pgawk
pwcat	Dumps the password database `/etc/passwd`
